Add MathBB to Claude Code
In a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http mathbb https://mathbb.app/mcp -
Sign in
In Claude Code, run
/mcp, choose mathbb and sign in. Your browser opens MathBB and asks you to allow the connection. -
Ask for what you want
For example: “In my Sendov notebook, add a page proving the n = 3 case, with a figure of the roots.”
You need a MathBB account. Guest accounts can't connect. Sign up
What Claude can do
- Notebooks. Read, write and organize pages, resources and folders.
- Figures and widgets. Render figures, 3D models and interactive widgets in your pages.
- Code and Lean. Run code and check Lean proofs in MathBB's sandboxes.
- Your blog. Write, publish and schedule posts, or bring them over from another blog.
- Research Arenas. Create and edit arenas, and submit progress reports.
- Files. Move files between your computer and your notebooks.
Deleting notebooks, arenas or your blog, sharing, moderating comments and reviewing reports stay in the browser.
The plugin optional
The MathBB plugin sets up the same connection and adds the MathBB authoring skill, which Claude Code loads when a task needs it. Without the plugin, Claude reads the same guidance from the server. In Claude Code, run these one at a time:
/plugin marketplace add rhombic-research/mathbb-claude
/plugin install mathbb@rhombic-research
Then sign in with /mcp. Use the plugin or the command above, not both.
Other MCP clients
MathBB is a remote MCP server at this URL. It speaks streamable HTTP and OAuth sign-in.
https://mathbb.app/mcp
- Claude Desktop and claude.ai: add it as a custom connector.
- Other clients: sign-in can return to an https address or to localhost, not to a custom app scheme.
MathBB is tested with Claude Code.
Your connection
A connection has your MathBB permissions: a notebook you can only view stays view-only. It ends after 30 days without use. You can revoke it any time in MathBB under Settings → Security → Connected apps.
